Get both devices ready
Install Pastefrog on the device you want to add using the download page. Keep both devices online and use the account that already holds your clips.
Every plan requires an account. Free allows 2 linked devices, and the $10 one-time Sync license allows 5. If you reach a device limit, Pastefrog shows the plan that removes it. It does not unlink another device for you.
Pastefrog saves and syncs nothing on a new device until sign-in and linking are complete. Follow the platform’s permission prompts too. The platform guides explain capture and paste access for each operating system.
Starting with your first device
Sign in with Google or an email code. Pastefrog shows your recovery key after the first sign-in. Save it somewhere private that does not depend on keeping this one device.
Your sign-in confirms which account you use. Your recovery key lets a replacement device read your encrypted clips if none of your linked devices is available. Keep the key even if you normally link by QR code.
Let the phone scan the computer’s code
The phone is always the scanner when linking a phone and computer. The computer shows the QR code.
- Open the linking flow in Pastefrog on the computer.
- Use the phone to scan the code shown on the computer and follow Pastefrog’s instructions.
- Complete any remaining permission prompts on the device you added.
- Check that both devices appear in your linked devices list.
If your phone was already signed in, the scan signs in the computer and transfers the keys it needs. If you started on the computer, it still shows the code and the new phone scans it. You do not need a camera on the computer.

Link when no other device is at hand
Use the email-code and recovery-key fallback. The email code signs the device into your account. The recovery key allows it to decrypt your clips. An email code alone cannot replace the key.
QR linking does not use the clipboard. Copies made before setup finishes are never imported. After setup, copied email codes or recovery keys can enter encrypted history. Keep codes and keys out of screenshots and support requests.
Do not remove your last working device first. If you have lost every linked device and the recovery key, your encrypted clips cannot be recovered. Read the recovery guide before wiping or replacing that device.
Test one copy in each direction
Copy a new short note on the computer. On the receiving phone, open Pastefrog, inspect the received clip, and use Copy. Then open a suitable field in the destination app and paste. For the reverse test, copy a different note on the phone, open Pastefrog or use its keyboard so the operating system permits capture, and paste it on the computer.
If the copy is visible in Pastefrog but will not paste into another app, linking succeeded. Check the destination field and platform permissions. macOS direct pasting needs Accessibility permission, and Linux direct pasting depends on the desktop’s support.
If it is missing from Pastefrog too, confirm both devices are online and check their last sent and received times. Try the short note again before relinking.
Remove a device or switch accounts
Use Pastefrog’s devices list to unlink a device you no longer use. Unlinking frees its device slot, removes its Pastefrog clips, and stops it receiving new copies. A lost device can be unlinked from another linked device.
A device belongs to one account at a time. Switching accounts clears the previous account’s history from that device, and the new account starts clean. Finish sign-in and linking for the new account before expecting capture to begin.
Only link devices you control. End-to-end encryption prevents Pastefrog’s servers from reading clip contents, but a linked device can read the copies it receives.
